We invite you to join us in the start of an annual tradition for the city of tampaand Tampa Fire Rescue.

September 11th has become a date that symbolizes the bravery and dedication of our nation’s firefighters. This year, September 11th will also mark the Centennial celebration of Tampa Fire Station 1, home of the Tampa Firefighters Museum.

On September 11, 2011, the Tampa Firefighters Museum will rededicate historic Tampa Fire Station 1 as it begins its second century of service to the community by honoring the history and heritage of Tampa’s firefighters and providing fire safety education to Tampa’s families, friends, neighbors and visitors.  The day will feature a ceremony to honor the lives lost on September 11th, an honored flag dedication along with the selection of a mural chosen to capture the history of Tampa Fire Rescue.  Station 1 opened in 1911 with state of the art horse drawn fire equipment, living quarters for the crew, and the headquarters offices.

Over the years, Tampa Fire Rescue equipment evolved with technological advancements to meet the firefighting and rescue needs of the community.  The one element that has not changed has been the unwavering courage and commitment of generations of Tampa Fire Rescue members to saving lives and protecting property in the city of Tampa.

The significance of the date September 11th cannot be overstated. The attack on our nation will forever be remembered. It is with that commitment to service that we will honor memory of our fallen with a flag that has flown over ground zero, to be being raised over the museum.

Please join with us as we rededicate the Station to its new mission and as we honor the history and heritage of our Tampa Firefighters. Celebrate with us as we begin the second century of service. Walk among the artifacts, hear the stories, and share the memories. Learn how you can make your family safer from fire and other dangers.
